MORROW, Ga. – Coming off of a season that saw a pair of individual Peach Belt Conference Championships, Clayton State men's track & field and head coach
Mike Mead have announced the signing of an individual in Tylah Travis (McDonough, Ga.) that has the potential to add to that total in the coming years.
TYLAH TRAVIS: 6-2, McDonough, Ga. (Eagles Landing High School)
Having only found his way to the sport at the organized level with the junior varsity squad during his sophomore season, Travis has tremendous upside as he went from those humble beginnings to the Henry County Athlete of the Year in 2019.
Â
After competing in both cross country and track & field at the JV level that first year he placed fifth in the 800-meters at the Henry County Track & Field Championships. That same year he was also a member of the Golden Eagles' cross country team that placed 11
th at the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Championships.
Â
That development would lead to a senior year that would see him become one of the top runners in Henry County as he was part of a 4x400-meter relay squad that won the county championship with a time of 3:16.23. Individually, he would also be runner-up in the 800-meters with a mark of 2:00.39 that season.
Â
That same 4x400-meter relay team would then notch a time of 3:15.62 in winning the 4-5A Region Championship before posting a Henry County record time of 3:14.43. That would come at the GHSA 5A State Championships where it would be a mark that would bring home the title.
Â
He would also finish seventh in the 800-meters at the championships as he posted a time of 1:58.45. It would be performances like those that would earn him Henry County Athlete of the Year honors following his senior campaign.

Head Coach Mike Mead on Tylah Travis
"Tylah is one of our top signees for the coming year. He is versatile. Coach [Chris] Brown and I witnessed him run at least a 48.5 split on the lead-off leg of his high school's 4x400. He has unlimited potential in the 800-meters and he can run cross country."
