AUGUSTA, Ga. – An impressive year on the track has carried over to another strong performance in the classroom as four Clayton State student-athletes have earned spots on the 2018-19 Peach Belt Conference Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team as announced by the league office on Thursday, May 16.
Seniors
Carla Catala Martin (Barcelona, Spain) and
Jhade Hayes (Land O'Lakes, Fla.), junior
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) and sophomore
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.) were each named to the team. Catala Martin is majoring in Management, Hayes in Liberal Studies, Jackson in Mathematics and Elmore in Nursing. They are among 35 honorees in the PBC this season for women's track & field.
It is the fourth such honor of Catala Martin's career with two each in cross country and track & field while it is the second for both Elmore and Hayes. Hayes earned the first of hers in women's basketball earlier this year and Jackson picks up her first in her first year of eligibility.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
The Peach Belt Conference Women's Track & Field Academic All-Conference Teams are released near the close of the season each year and prior to the NCAA Division II Championships.
