Clayton State's Newby and Wilson Make it 15 Straight Years With All-Peach Belt Conference Selection

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For an incredible 15th consecutive year, Clayton State women's basketball has had at least one player named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Team as redshirt-junior guard Madison Newby (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and junior guard Taneria Wilson (Fort Pierce, Fla.) have been selected to the 2018-19 Third-Team as announced by the league on Friday, March 8.

Newby has been a driving force for the Lakers all season as she posted averages of 12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game while shooting .479 from the floor and .703 at the foul line.

This year she went for at least 20 points five times, four right on that number, before exploding for a career-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting in a 59-44 win over USC Aiken in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on March 6.

One of her better games came at Francis Marion (2/9) when she dropped 20 points to equal her career-best and swiped a personal-best six steals. Additionally, she ripped down a career-high nine boards to go with 15 points and three steals the very next time out at Georgia College (2/13).

In her first year at the NCAA Division II level, Wilson showed she clearly belongs as she has checked off all the boxes with averages of 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.9 assists, all while shooting .457 from the field.

In 29 games she has reached double-digits in scoring 18 times, headlined by a career-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting at No. 3 Carson-Newman (11/20). She also dropped 23 points with four steals at Flagler (12/1) and had 20 points against Lander (12/19).

A jack of all trades, Wilson also notched a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds at Young Harris (1/9) and notched six steals to go with 19 points and six caroms against Tusculum (11/15). Additionally, she produced at least three steals in 12 games and nearly had a triple-double with 16 points, seven boards and six assists against Francis Marion (1/12).

This year's selections mark the 15th consecutive year that Clayton State has had at least one player named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Team and the 17th year out of the last 18. It is also the 12th time that they have had multiple players recognized in a single campaign. In their 24 years as a member of the league they have had a player so honored in 18 of those years for a total of 34 selections.
