MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (4-2-1, 1-1-1 PBC) women's soccer will test their mettle with a midseason matchup with rival Columbus State (5-6, 1-4 PBC) as they tangle on Alumni Weekend on Saturday, October 12. Game time is set for approximately 6 p.m. at Laker Field following the men's contest against No. 8 Lynn.
All-time,
the Lakers are 3-16 against Columbus dating back to the first meeting on October 16, 2004. Since that 2-1 win, the teams have played at least once in each of the ensuing 15 seasons, with postseason games in 2005, 2008, 2013 and 2018.
The first of those in 2005 was a 2-1 overtime Clayton State victory to win the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship and clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in program history.
The only other PBC Tournament meetings would be a 4-0 Columbus State win in the quarterfinals on November 4, 2008 and a 4-0 victory last season in the quarterfinals in Columbus, Georgia on October 30. The teams also met in the 2013 NCAA Tournament with the Cougars posting a 1-0 opening round decision on November 15 of that year.
Columbus has taken 15 of the past 16 meetings but enters this year's game having lost four PBC contests. That equals the most they have lost in a season, joining their inaugural 2004 squad that went 1-4-3 in the league.
There will be coverage of the game through both
live stats and
video. Full multimedia coverage is available on
