Ayumi Deyton Officially Named Clayton State Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer

MORROW, Ga. – Ayumi Deyton has been named as a Clayton State graduate assistant athletic trainer as announced by head athletic trainer Alicia Roane on Wednesday, September 19. She will be responsible for helping to provide high level coverage of the Lakers 11 sport programs.
 
Deyton comes to Clayton State following an accomplished undergraduate career at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. From 2014-18 she was involved with athletic training duties for nine different organizations as part of her training.
 
These included working with the Rabun-Gap Nacoochee School (Rabun Gap, Ga.), Sylva Medical Center (Sylva, N.C.), Division I UNC Asheville Strength & Conditioning (Asheville, N.C.), Harris Regional Hospital (Sylva, N.C.) and serving as Western Carolina Teaching Assistant in the Spring of 2018.
 
Prior to these wide ranging experiences Deyton served at both Robbinsville and Asheville High School in Fall 2015 and Spring 2016, respectively. Following those positions she worked with Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tenn.) in the 2016 preseason and Fall of 2017 before joining Stanford University (Palo Alto, Calif.) for the 2016-17 season.
 
Additionally, she has worked the Falcon Frenzy Wrestling Tournament in Hendersonville, North Carolina and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Cross Country Championships in Kernersville, North Carolina in 2015.
 
Deyton also had responsibilities at the 2015 and 2016 Hendersonville Invitational Cross Country Meet (Hendersonville, N.C) as well as the 2016 Robbinsville Invitational Wrestling Tournament (Robbinsville, N.C.) and Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Wrestling Tournament (Rabun Gap, Ga.) in 2018.
 
During her career she has also earned numerous Western Carolina academic honors, including landing on the Deans List from 2014-18, the WCU Chancellor's List in 2014 and the Honor's College from 2015-17.
 
In an effort to continue to broaden her horizons Deyton attended the Student Southeast Athletic Trainer's Association Athletic Training Symposium in Atlanta, Georgia in February 2016 and the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainer's Association Annual Meeting in Virginia Beach, Virginia in May of 2016 and 2017. Most recently she took part in the North Carolina Athletic Trainer's Association Clinical Symposium in Wrightsville, Beach, North Carolina from 2016-18.
 
She currently holds membership in the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA), Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainer's Association (MAATA) and the North Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association. All of those have been since 2016.
 
A 2018 graduate of Western Carolina University, Deyton holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. She is currently completing her Master of Science in Kinesiology through the University of North Georgia.
