Clayton State Athletics Announces Addition of Danielle Masi as Athletic Trainer

MORROW, Ga. – Danielle Masi has been named as a Clayton State athletic trainer as announced by head athletic trainer Alicia Roane on Monday, December 10. She will be responsible for helping to provide high level coverage of the Lakers 11 sport programs, particularly men's basketball and men's and women's track & field.

Masi joins Clayton State Athletics following her time as a student athletic trainer at the University of New Hampshire. While there she worked with the Wildcats' Division I women's basketball (2015-16), women's soccer (2016) and football (2017) programs. Additionally, she served as a student athletic trainer for Dover Senior High School from January-May of 2017.

With UNH's women's basketball program she honed her skills on taping all areas of the body and assisted and directed a student-athlete through an entire meniscus tear rehabilitation plan.

As the trainer for women's soccer she taught, supervised and instructed other trainers and coordinated and executed treatment plans for head and shoulder injuries. With the football program she assisted in preventing exertional heat illness through hydration and urinalysis during preseason camp and also observed and helped rehabilitate an ACL reconstructive surgery.

Masi also served as a teaching assistant in the UNH Athletic Training Education Program, doing so in the Concepts of Athletic Training course from January-May of 2016. That role saw her instruct students in a lab setting concerning introductory anatomy, injury evaluation and taping skills.

Serving as the student athletic trainer for DSHS, she was responsible for keeping detailed records of patient's daily treatments. Masi also guided minors through their various treatment plans.

In addition to her direct sport responsibilities at New Hampshire, she also served as a trainer for a pair of camps held on campus during the Summer of 2017.

The first of those was an overnight gymnastics camp where she provided first aid and emergency care to gymnasts ranging in age from 10-17. She also managed the pre-participation and medical forms for all gymnasts.

Directly following that camp she served as a trainer for UNH's Hockey Summer Camp. In that role she was responsible for administering first aid and emergency care for male and female hockey players from ages 5-15.

As a member of the University of New Hampshire's Student Athletic Training Organization from 2015-18, Masi helped organize a number of efforts.

Those included organizing a team to raise money for the American Cancer Society through an overnight relay and participating in numerous fundraising and professional development events that brought awareness to the profession.

Beyond her athletic trainer duties, she was also active in Greek life at UNH, founding the Iota Upsilon chapter of the Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority. From October 2016 through May 2018, she designed and implemented plans and kept accurate financial records while helping the organization raise better than $2,000 for philanthropic efforts.

Masi is a Certified Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC) and also holds CPR and AED certification through the Red Cross. She is a 2018 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Athletic Training.
