Rackley Drops Career-High 25 Points as Clayton State Blasts Georgia Southwestern 84-55 on Senior Night

MORROW, Ga. – In a key Peach Belt Conference game Clayton State (14-13, 11-10 PBC) took control from the opening tip and blew past Georgia Southwestern (8-17, 5-16 PBC) to earn an 84-55 victory in an NCAA Division II women's basketball game on Wednesday, February 21.

Senior forward Abreyln Rackley (St. Louis, Mo.) delivered a career-high 25 points with 10 boards to lead the Lakers while senior guard Aysia Grimsley (Marietta, Ga.) finished with 16 points, five assists and five steals. Both were playing their final game at The Loch.

Junior center Aleisha Merriweather (Augusta, Ga.) added 12 points and seven rebounds and junior forward Velencia Johnson (Hoover, Ala.) chipped in with 11 points. Freshman guard Tatiana Foster (Atlanta, Ga.) rounded things out with seven points and three steals.

Playing like a team trying to get ready for the postseason, Clayton State wasted no time as they barreled out to an impressive 20-8 lead at the end of one. That margin would continue to grow, eventually reaching a 40-18 spread with 2:36 left in the half. At that point GSW found some offense as they narrowed the gap to 42-25 by the break.

It would get no better for the Hurricanes as the lead ballooned to 61-36 by the 1:58 mark behind a 19-11 stretch before the Lakers took a 65-39 margin into the fourth quarter. From there they would extend to a 79-46 lead with 2:09 remaining. From there they would close out the 84-55 victory.

Mariya Trimble led GSW with 18 points and nine rebounds and Amanda Melosky finished with 11 points and eight caroms. Adrianne Brown capped off the top performers with eight points.

The Lakers wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 24 as they head to rival Columbus State. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.
