Clayton State Set to Close Out Regular Season at USC Aiken in Pursuit of PBC Berth

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (6-5-3, 3-5-1 PBC) closes out the regular season in a game that could determine if they make the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Tournament as they travel to USC Aiken (3-10-0, 1-7-0 PBC) on Wednesday, October 24. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Aiken, South Carolina.

Entering the game the Lakers (10 points) sit in the No. 7 spot, ahead of Young Harris (9) and Francis Marion (6). The latter is the only one that can knock them out and it would take a pair of victories at Lander and Flagler to accomplish that. Even if that were to happen, it would appear that a Clayton State victory would secure a berth as it would push them to 13 points, which FMU could not get to.

On the other side, the Lakers could move past Georgia College to the No. 6 spot but it would take them losing to both Young Harris and USCA combined with a Clayton State victory. Additionally, they are battling for positioning with YHC, which faces GC and UNC Pembroke on the road.

The Lakers hold the tiebreaker with a 2-1 win last Saturday but do not control their own destiny as the Mountain Lions could win both and end up with an insurmountable 15 points.

Against USC Aiken All-time, the Lakers are 14-6-1 dating to the first meeting on October 22, 1997. That 6-0 win at Laker Field would be the beginning of nine wins in the first 11 contests through September 22, 2007. Following back-to-back 2-0 wins by the Pacers in 2008 and 2009, Clayton State is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings, including a 3-0 victory in Morrow on October 22, 2016. Most recently USCA earned a 2-1 victory in Aiken on October 21, 2017.

There will be both live video and live stats coverage of the game both of which are available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
