MORROW, Ga. – Facing their ninth nationally ranked opponent this season, Clayton State (2-14, 0-11 PBC) picked up an impressive doubles victory but could not pull off the upset as No. 31 Georgia College (9-7, 6-3 PBC) posted a 8-1 in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Friday, April 7.
Â
The Bobcats posted victories of 8-0 and 8-1 at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively and were off to a strong start at the two spot. Trailing 7-4 to Macy Polk and Hannah Serdinia, the tandem of seniors
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) and
Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) had other ideas.
Â
At that point they would battle all the way back to eventually come away with a thrilling 9-8 victory. That marathon match would go an hour and a half.
Â
Entering singles play with the score at 2-1, GC would take control as they notched six straight victories to secure the 8-1 victory. They would have to earn that final point, however, as Mets battled at the No. 1 position. Taking on Macy Polk, she earned a 7-5 decision before narrowly missing by a 7-6 score. From there the Bobcats would pull out a 10-4 score to reach the final margin.
Â
The Lakers are back in action on Sunday, April 9 when they host Georgia Southwestern in Peach Belt Conference action. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Morrow, Georgia.
