MORROW, Ga. – Facing a perennial national power in the NAIA ranks, Clayton State (3-15, 1-11 PBC) fell by an 8-1 score to No. 30 Auburn-Montgomery (17-4) in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Saturday, April 15.
Â
The Warhawks claimed the No. 3 doubles by an 8-1 score to start things off before seniors
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) and
Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) delivered a tremendous effort at the No. 1 spot. Battling Paula Diaz and Anna Rudolfova, the pairing produced an impressive 8-4 victory to even the match at 1-1. AUM would then take the second spot by an 8-2 margin.
Â
It would not be as favorable as the teams moved to singles play, however. Auburn-Montgomery would benefit from an injury that gave them a default win at No. 6 before notching three straight 6-0, 6-0 wins at spots five through three. They would close out No. 2 at 6-1, 6-0 before Mets fell to Kelly Southwood (6-1, 6-2) at the top spot.
Â
Clayton State closes out the 2017 season with an overall record of 3-15 and 1-11 in Peach Belt Conference action.
