AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the close of the regular season, a pair of Clayton State's women's tennis student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team as announced by the league on Monday, April 17.
 
Seniors Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) have each been named to the All-Academic Team, making it three straight years for each of them. With freshman not eligible for the award, it marks the maximum number of times that an individual can be named to the team.
 
Drozdova is majoring in Communication and Media Studies while Mets is majoring in Politics. Both have achieved a stellar 3.96 GPA and are among 37 honorees in the Peach Belt this season.
 
On the court, the pair was the Lakers most successful doubles tandem in 2017, recording a 10-5 overall record together, including 8-5 at the No. 1 position and 7-3 in PBC action. In singles play, Mets was 5-13 as she faced six nationally ranked individuals while playing at the No. 1 spot for most of the season. Drozdova was 3-9 playing primarily at the No. 2 position.
 
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
 
The Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Academic All-Conference Teams are released near the close of the regular season each year and prior to the conference championship. Clayton State wrapped up the 2017 season with a 3-15 overall record and 1-11 mark in the PBC.
