SAVANNAH, Ga. – Clayton State women's track & field posted several personal bests as they kicked off the outdoor season at the Savannah State Relays on Saturday, March 4.
Senior
Kemjika Finebone (Douglasville, Ga.) had the top performance on the day as she won the long jump, besting 25 other competitors with a distance of 5.91-meters. Sophomore
Hailey Budd (Hartwell, Ga.) finished 14-of-27 in the 5,000-meters with a personal best of 21:08.34, topping her previous mark of 21:26.44 at the Berry Invitational last April 9.
She was joined by sophomore
Kimberley Zahm (Bethlehem, Ga.), who was 19-of-27 in the 5,000. She notched a time of 21:54.52 to better her outdoor time in the event by more than 39 seconds, setting her previous mark of 22:33.78 also at Berry. Freshman Kymble Talps (Douglasville, Ga.) added a 21-of-30 performance in the 100-meters (14.61) in her first collegiate action.
Turning to the remaining field events, junior
Chelsy Haynes (Buena Vista, Ga.) produced an impressive body of work. She notched a mark of 28.55-meters in the hammer, finishing 10-of-17, and 7-of-19 in the discus (32.44m). She was also 11-of-27 in the shot put with a mark of 10.22-meters.
Junior
Latrese Hubbard (Cusseta, Ga.) had an strong weekend as well, finishing in the Top-10 in all three events. She was 7-of-17 in the hammer (34.69m), 8-of-27 in the shot (10.70m) and 9-of-19 in the discus (30.70m).
Clayton State returns to action on March 17-18 when they head to the Emory Invitational. That will be the first of two straight meets at Emory, with the other on the following weekend.
