Road Test at USC Aiken Awaits Clayton State in Quest for 2017 PBC Tournament Berth

MORROW, Ga. – Fighting for a 2017 Peach Belt Conference Tournament berth, Clayton State (5-7, 2-5 PBC) travels to their most likely challenger, USC Aiken (3-11, 1-7 PBC), for an NCAA Division II women's soccer game on Saturday, October 20. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Aiken, South Carolina.

Clayton State currently holds down the eighth and final spot with six points and three league games to play while USCA is tied for ninth with three points and two to play. Francis Marion is also tied for ninth but does not hold the tiebreaker against the Lakers following a 6-0 defeat earlier in the season.

It appears that a win would put Clayton State into the field as they would jump up to nine points and prevent Aiken from catching them with just one game left to play. FMU has two games left but would fall on the head-to-head tiebreaker were they to win both of those contests.

The game takes on added importance as the remainder of the schedule features two of the top three teams in the league in North Georgia (9-3-2, 6-2-0 PBC) and No. 9 Flagler (12-0-2, 5-0-2 PBC), the latter on the road. A loss to the Pacers would cede the head-to-head advantage and put USCA in a position to advance should Clayton State not win one of their final two games. If the Pacers were to win out in that scenario it would likely mean that the Lakers would need to win both of their final games against those league leaders.

All-time, the Lakers are 14-5-1 against USCA dating to the first meeting on October 22, 1997. That 6-0 win at Laker Field would be the beginning of nine wins in the first 11 contests through September 22, 2007. Following back-to-back 2-0 wins by the Pacers in 2008 and 2009, Clayton State is 5-0-1 in the last five meetings, including a 3-0 victory in Morrow on October 22, 2016.

There will be coverage of the game through both live stats and live video. Full multimedia coverage is available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
