Key Two-Match Road Trip Up Next For Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – Currently sitting in 10th place in the Peach Belt Conference, Clayton State (5-10, 2-6 PBC) can come out of the weekend in position to qualify for the league's postseason tournament with a pair of wins and a little help.

The Lakers will travel to North Georgia (13-6, 3-4 PBC) and Young Harris (10-6, 3-5 PBC) on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10, respectively, with both matches set for 2 p.m. first serve. Both of those teams will also play Montevallo during the weekend.

Wins against both clubs would put Clayton State ahead of at least YHC with the head-to-head victory while the same results with a UM win over the Nighthawks on Friday would vault them to the eight spot.

Following those games, the Lakers will close out the regular season at home against Lander (6-9, 1-9 PBC) and No. 50 USC Aiken (12-5, 4-4 PBC). Wins this weekend will make those matches of utmost importance as the club looks to make the PBC Tournament for the first time since 2013.

All-time, Clayton State is an impressive 14-2 against North Georgia and 2-1 in limited action against Young Harris. The Lakers won the first 14 matches against UNG before dropping one in each of the last two years. They have won the last two against YHC with a narrow 5-4 loss in 2013 as the only blemish.

The series with the Nighthawks dates to April 4, 1996, the first year of the program, while the series with the Mountain Lions has been renewed with their move to the PBC three years ago. Before that, the clubs met once on April 5, 1999.
