MORROW, Ga. – In their home opener, Clayton State (2-6, 1-4 PBC) challenged No. 41 Francis Marion (10-2, 4-1 PBC) before falling 8-1 in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Sunday, March 6.
 
Following a pair of 8-1 defeats at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, the Lakers tandem of senior Raluca Pavel (Bacau, Romania) and junior Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) pushed Eva Lieben and Anna Wintrich at No. 2 before falling 8-5.
 
The Patriots would wrap up the match victory with three straight victories at No. 4, No. 3 and No. 1 singles to make it 6-0. Pavel would put up a fight at No. 2 before falling 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 and Wintrich would post a 6-2, 6-2 decision over junior Carolina Monterrubio (Mexico City, Mexico) at No. 5.
 
It would be sophomore Alina Ageichik (Minsk, Republic of Belarus) who would get Clayton State on the board in the final match of the day. Competing at No. 6, she dropped the first set 6-4 before rebounding with a 6-3 second set victory to force a decisive third set. In that frame she would pull out a 10-8 victory to reach the final margin of 8-1.
 
The Lakers continue to take on top flight programs as they face NAIA No. 10 Brenau on Saturday, March 12. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Gainesville, Georgia.
