D2SIDA Poll – January 19, 2016 I USA Today Sports Coaches Poll – January 19, 2016

LILBURN, Ga. – Posting a 15-1 overall record and 11 straight wins has gotten the attention of both national polls as Clayton State women's basketball finds itself in the Top-25 in both the Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll sponsored by D2SIDA and the USA Today Sports/WBCA Division II Coaches Poll.

The Lakers move up nine spots in D2SIDA to a tie for No. 13 with 181 votes and jump into the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll at No. 22 with 107 votes. They are tied with 2014 national champion Bentley in the former and are the only new team in the USA Today poll.

So far this season, Clayton State has earned votes in either poll a total of six times, including three times in D2SIDA (No. 22 and 56 votes on 1/12, 13 on 12/22 and eight on 11/24). This also marks the third straight week appearing in the USA Today poll with 60 votes last week. It is the first time they have been ranked in the latter this season.

Clayton State is the highest ranking Peach Belt Conference team in both polls with Columbus State dropping to No. 23 in USA Today and completely out of the D2SIDA Poll.

Since a loss to current No. 1 (USA Today) and No. 2 (D2SIDA) Lubbock Christian on November 27, the Lakers have won 11 straight games and all nine PBC contests. During that stretch they have taken down impressive league members Armstrong State, No. 15 Francis Marion and a Georgia College team that won 13 in a row at one point.

In the D2SIDA poll, Lubbock (15-0) comes in at No. 1 and is followed just two votes back by Southeast Region member Limestone (14-0). Former national champion Ashland (16-0), Alaska Anchorage (20-1) and Missouri Western (17-0) round out the top five.

The USA Today poll features Alaska Anchorage in the top spot, Lubbock at No. 2 and Fort Hays State (16-1), Ashland and Missouri Western in the final three spots. Limestone is the highest ranked region team in both polls with Anderson (12-1) at No. 11 being the only other region team ahead of the Lakers in USA Today.

Clayton State returns to action on Saturday, January 23 when they host rival North Georgia (12-6, 4-5 PBC). Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. at The Loch.
