MORROW, Ga. – In their home opener, Clayton State (2-0, 0-0 PBC) looked like they were in mid-season form, demolishing neighboring Carver (5-8) 102-73 in an NCAA Division II men's basketball game on Wednesday, November 25. It is the first time in five years they have surpassed the 100-point plateau.

Senior guard
Saiquan Terry (Manchester, Ga.) went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and led the Lakers with 18 points, all in the first half, while junior forward
Alfonso Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes of action. Sophomore guard
Nathan Powell (Orlando, Fla.) flirted with a triple-double, finishing with eight points, seven assists and six boards.

Takija Knight (Crawfordville, Fla.) added 13 points and six rebounds and junior guard
Maurice White (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in with nine points. Redshirt-freshman guard
Marquise Clark (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore guard
Dantez Bennamon (Goose Creek, S.C.) each had eight points and senior center
Richard Bell (West Sussex, England) rounded out the top performers with seven caroms.

The teams were evenly matched over the first eight minutes as they deadlocked at 17-17 before the Lakers took a narrow 20-19 advantage at the 11:20 mark. Over the next 4:01, they would mount an impressive 17-5 run, fueled by three triples, to take a 37-24 lead with 7:09 left in the half.

It would be the Cougars turn over the next 3:16 as they used an 8-2 spurt to close to within 39-32 at the 3:53 mark. From there, it would be all Lakers as they dominated the final 3:53 of the half to take a commanding 53-34 lead into the break.

Clayton State would push to an 18-point lead within the first minute of the second half and would maintain at least an 11-point lead the rest of the way. With the score at 58-47 at 12:40, they outscored Carver 36-19 over the next 8:58 to blow the game wide open with a 94-66 lead at 3:42. The margin would eventually grow to 31 points at 102-71 with 1:15 to play before they wrapped up the 102-73 victory.

Brannon Hopkins led the Cougars with a game-high 20 points and six boards while Saveyon Edwards posted 16 points. Johnathan Robinson notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Jamil Saaka added 11 points and seven boards.

As a team, Clayton State went 12-of-23 from beyond the arc and posted a 49-11 advantage in bench scoring and 42-22 difference in points in the pain.

The Lakers return to action on Sunday, November 29 when they begin a three-game road swing as they travel to Saint Leo (4-1, 1-1 SSC). Game time is set for 2 p.m. in Saint Leo, Fla.
