Chick-fil-A Forest Park Dwarf House Student-Athletes of the Month ArchiveMORROW, Ga. - A pair of Clayton State student-athletes have earned the distinction of being selected as the Chick-fil-A Forest Park Dwarf House Student-Athletes of the Month for October as announced by the institution on Friday, November 13.
Avery Shepard - Men's SoccerSenior men's soccer midfielder
Avery Shepard (Kennesaw, Ga.) earned the Chick-fil-A Forest Park Dwarf House Male Student-Athlete of the Month for November with an impressive 2015 season.
Shepard earned his second straight All-Peach Belt Conference First-Team honor and became just the third Laker in program history to lead the league in goals. The latter netted him the Brine Gold Ball Award. On the year he put 11 to the back of the net while adding three assists for 25 points.
In his second straight year as Clayton State's leader in both goals and points, Shepard scored in seven games, including a career-high three goals in a 4-0 win over Shorter (9/23). He also added a two goal, one assist effort in a 5-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern (10/21) and a pair of scores against Emmanuel (10/5).
Maia Kuhnen - Women's Cross CountrySenior cross country runner
Maia Kuhnen (Trier, Germany) delivered an outstanding fall season to earn the Chick-fil-A Forest Park Dwarf House Student-Athlete of the Month for November.
Over the course of seven meets, Kuhnen led the Lakers in every meet, including earning both All-Southeast Region and All-Peach Belt Conference honors. Among her individual accomplishments were six top five finishes, among them winning the Struts Season Opener (9/4) and placing second the following week at the West Georgia Wolves XC Invitational (9/11) the following week.
She placed fifth at the PBC Championships to earn All-Conference honors and was an impressive ninth at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships (11/7). In the latter, Kuhnen was just a half second away from qualifying for the national championships in Joplin, Missouri.
Additionally, she was just the fourth individual in program history to be named PBC Runner of the Week (9/9) and was selected as one of only two international students among the 44 members of the PBC Cross Country All-Academic Team.
