Former Clayton State All-American golfer Will Wilcox, one of the best players in program history, is moving up the Professional Golf Association (PGA) rankings as he approaches $1 million in earnings during the 2015 season.

Wilcox is the only three-time All-American in team history, earning Honorable Mention recognition in 2007 before back-to-back First-Team honors in 2008 and 2009, and helped lead the Lakers to their only Peach Belt Conference Championship, doing so in 2009. He was also a three-time All-Southeast Region choice and the 2009 PBC Player of the Year, an achievement that has yet to be equaled.

Since turning pro in 2010 he has earned $2,135,042 in prize winnings, according to his official PGA Tour bio, with $989,649 of that coming this year over the course of 13 events. By comparison, 2014 saw him play 16 events and gross $586,159 for an average of $36,634.94. This year he is averaging $76,126.85 per tournament.

Wilcox kicked off his professional career with four PGA Tour Canada events in 2010, winning one and notching another Top-10 outing. Since that year he has also competed on the Web.com Tour, primarily from 2011-13, earning more than $500,000. After playing one PGA Tour event in each of 2010 and 2011, the native of Pell City, Ala. has played on the Tour almost exclusively for the past two years.

After notching a pair of Top-10 finishes and a total of five Top-25 outings in his first full season, Wilcox this season has three Top-10 performances, including a second place finish at the Barbasol Championship (7/19) in which he shot a 66-70-65-67-268 to finish 16-under. The previous week he tied for eighth at the John Deere Classic (7/12) with a 66-66-69-67-268 tournament that saw him deliver another 16-under outing.

His increasingly strong play has also allowed him to support worthy causes. As a pro he donated $6,000 to the Alabama Junior Golf Association and actively supports Growth of the Game.

That play has included winning a pair of tournaments as a professional, beginning with the 2010 Dakota Dunes Open on PGA Tour Canada and the 2013 South Georgia Classic on the Web.com Tour. Currently he ranks 84th in the PGA and is in the middle of the 2015 season that runs through the end of October.

This year he ranks in the Top-10 statistically in 25 categories, including No. 1 in sand save percentage, sand save percentage around the green and Par 3 scoring average.
