Coach Marcinko enters his first year as an Assistant Coach on Coach Carl Little's staff. Joseph "Joe" Marcinko brings proven leadership, a player-centered coaching philosophy, and a commitment to building a championship-caliber culture to the collegiate level. He joins the program after serving as the varsity boys basketball head coach at Morgan High School in McConnelsville, Ohio. Before leading the Raiders, Marcinko served as the head junior-high basketball coach at John Glenn and as a varsity assistant coach at Trimble High School.
Throughout his coaching career, Marcinko has developed a reputation for discipline, preparation, accountability, and relationship-building. His approach emphasizes fundamental skill development, basketball IQ, unselfish play, and consistent effort. He is committed to helping student-athletes understand their roles, maximize their potential, and contribute to a connected, team-first environment.
Marcinko is equally invested in developing student-athletes away from the court. He believes successful programs are built by recruiting and mentoring individuals whose character, work ethic, academic goals, and competitive drive align with the program's standards. Through clear communication and meaningful relationships, he strives to support each player's athletic development, academic achievement, and personal growth.
A native of Meigs County, Ohio, Marcinko served 17 years in the United States Army before medically retiring. His distinguished military career included three combat deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Those experiences strengthened his leadership abilities and established the principles he brings to coaching: discipline, resilience, service, attention to detail, and responsibility to the team.
Marcinko earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from Ohio University, where he also gained valuable on-court experience as a member of the women's basketball practice squad. Marcinko views coaching as an opportunity to prepare student-athletes for achievement far beyond the game. He provides a positive and demanding environment in which players can grow as competitors, students, leaders, and people while helping the program pursue excellence on the court, in the classroom, and throughout the community.
