Jalyn Brooks

A former NCAA Division I women’s basketball student-athlete, Jalyn Brooks joined Clayton State Athletics as the Graduate Assistant for Women’s Basketball and Compliance in July of 2018.
 
In those roles, Brooks is responsible for a variety of duties. With women’s basketball handles travel arrangements and meals, assisting with practice and individual workouts, organizing community service activities and gameday operations.
 
With Compliance she serves on the Academic Committee, monitors the Department’s student-athlete study hall and assists with compliance meetings as well as the annual Cambridge Computer Laker Club Golf Classic.
 
COLLEGIATE PLAYING EXPERIENCE:
MOREHEAD STATE (2014-15), MOTLOW STATE (2015-16), EASTERN KENTUCKY (2016-17)
Brooks bring with her a number of years of Division I playing experience with both Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. She also played a season at National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I member Motlow State Community College in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
 
With MSU in 2014-15 she earned a full scholarship and played in five games as a freshman. During that year she saw action against No. 9/13 Kentucky, Indiana, Brescia, Ohio and Akron.
 
Following that season she transferred to Motlow in 2015-16 and averaged 3.8 points, 2.7 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 10 games before and injury cut short her season. In that abbreviated season she started nine games and scored a career-high 14 points with four assists and three boards vs. Gadsden State (11/13) and dished out six assists at Jackson State (11/7).
 
In 2016-17 she joined DI Eastern Kentucky and played in nine games with one start. That season she averaged just under a board and assist per game and competed against the likes of Kent State (11/14), Western Michigan (11/22) and Western Carolina (11/26). Against the latter she logged three boards and scored her first career points for the Colonels and had a pair of caroms in her first career start vs. Miami of Ohio (12/20).
 
That season she also helped lead EKU to a runner-up finish in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament as they knocked of the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds before falling to top seeded Belmont in the championship game.
 
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
In addition to her collegiate accomplishments, Brooks was the first female athlete to play Division I basketball from Lancaster Christian Academy. While there she was ranked as one of Rutherford County’s Top 25 guards in 2013-14 and was selected to both the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) All-Tournament (2014) and All-Defensive Teams (2012).
 
She also helped lead the program to a pair of NACA National Championships in 2012 and 2014 and played for TN Nike Flight Navy at the AAU level. Additionally she has been a member of the National Honors Society at both the high school and collegiate level since 2013.
 
A native of Tennessee, she has been involved with a number of projects in that state,  including the Music City Marathon (2013, Nashville, Tenn.), Missionary Car Wash of Richmond (2016, Richmond, Ky.) and Kids Fest at Madison County Park (2016, Richmond, Ky.).
 
EDUCATION
Following her time at Eastern Kentucky, Brooks attended Middle Tennessee State and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Leisure, Sport and Tourism Studies in 2018.
 
Over the course of her studies at both institutions she was named to the Dean’s List and was a Top-20 Senior Honor Student at MTSU. At Clayton State she is currently pursuing her Masters of Business Administration.
