Clayton State University, a public, NCAA Division II institution within the University System of Georgia and a proud member of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), is seeking Athletics interns in compliance, event management and facilities, marketing and sports information.

About Clayton State University
With 192 acres of park-like setting that offers a peaceful and safe environment conducive to learning, the main campus of Clayton State University is located less than two miles from Interstate 75 Exit 233 in Morrow, Georgia. Named Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, the University’s wooded landscape features five lakes, an assortment of waterfowl including swans and geese and is a beautiful contrast to the vibrant urban life of metropolitan Atlanta, which is just a twenty-minute drive away. Clayton State University is also minutes from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, frequently designated as the world’s busiest airport.

About Clayton State Athletics
Clayton State sponsors 11 sports in men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s outdoor track and men’s golf. The Lakers compete in one of the top Division II conferences in the nation - the Peach Belt Conference – and have enjoyed much success in their 30 year history:

•    133 NCAA Tournament Appearances
•    79 All-Americans
•    69 Total Championships (National, Regional, Conference Tournament/Regular Season)
•    2011 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Champions

Internship Programs
There are two types of internships available within our department: volunteer and academic. The number and types of internships available will vary based upon the needs of the department. All interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

•    Volunteer--Individuals who have a desire to gain work experience within athletic administration. These interns will receive no monetary compensation for these positions. The positions be primarily gameday or event positions but will not necessarily be exclusive to those areas.

•    Academic--Individuals participating in the academic internship program do so in order to meet academic requirements of their degree while gaining practical, hands on experience in their chosen field. Interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, however, their own academic programs will often require a total number of hours to be completed.

Available Internships

Sports Information
Provide hands-on experience in print, electronic and internet media as well as other aspects of the athletic department's sports information operation. Minimum qualifications include a strong familiarity with the sports world, an ability to write well, experience with Microsoft Office Suite, a professional demeanor and the desire to learn the business. Preferred qualifications include a proficiency with Desktop Publishing (CS6: Photoshop/InDesign) and StatCrew Software for soccer, basketball, tennis and golf.

Compliance
Assist with the department’s monitoring of NCAA, PBC, and institutional rules and regulations, review compliance documentation and forms, and prepare compliance newsletters and educational literature and, utilize Compliance Assistant software.

Development
Assist in many areas of the Clayton State Athletics Laker Club (Athletics Fundraising Arm), including but not limited to: planning and managing fundraising events, hospitality functions in conjunction with athletic contests, annual campaign communications, solicitation, follow-up and thank you mailings and general office duties and other responsibilities as assigned.

Game Operations and Facilities
Assist in providing event management for home athletic contests and maintaining athletic facilities.

Marketing and Promotions
Assist with the planning and execution of marketing, promotions and game-day operations for Laker Athletics.

General Qualifications include:
•    Ability to work nights, weekends and possibly holiday hours
•    Basic computer skills (MS Office)
•    Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
•    Knowledge and interest in sports, particularly college Athletics
•    Enthusiasm with a desire to work hard, and have fun and learn
•    A team player with leadership skills
•    Represent the interests of the Athletics Department at all times
•    Willing and able to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 lbs

Identify your interest in the program, including the specific internship area for which you would like to be considered.

Resume
Include your current and past employment as well as education.

References
Provide at least three (3) professional references and their contact information. At least one reference should be a member of the faculty from your major.
