Laker Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime Thriller to Columbus State

Andre Young Led the Lakers with 25 Points

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team took Columbus State to overtime but ultimately fell, 93-87, on Saturday afternoon.  A pair of Lakers scored 20 or more points. 
 
Neither team could gather any momentum in the first 10 minutes of the game as the Lakers and Cougars were deadlocked at 16.  Jojo Bell, Eddie Page, and Andre Young all hit fields goals.  Joey Thomas then took over the game for the Lakers as he marked the next seven points and made the score, 21-20.  Neither team led by as many as four points in the half, but the Cougars took a 40-37 lead going into the halftime break.  Bell went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field during the half.

Young and DJ Wright quickly swung the momentum for the Lakers at the beginning of the second half as they both fired in threes.  The Lakers led, 45-44.  The two teams traded baskets until the Lakers opened a five point lead at 57-52.  Both Young and Wright hit baskets during that stretch.  The Cougars then cut into that lead.  At the score, 64-61, Columbus State went on a mini 7-0 run and took the lead at 68-64.  During this stretch, the Lakers did not hit a field goal in almost four minutes. 
 
With four minutes left, Columbus State opened a six-point lead at 76-70, but the Lakers erased that lead with baskets from Page, Wright, and Thomas.  The two team found themselves tied at 78 with 1:40 left and neither team scored and we headed to overtime.  In the overtime period, Columbus State outscored the Lakers, 15-9, and went onto win the game, 93-87.  Page scored six of the nine points in the period.
