WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team started the 2025 regular season with a 3-1 loss to Rollins College on Thursday evening.
The story of the first half was Rollins brought the offensive intensity as they outshot the Lakers, 8-0. Goalkeeper
Rubie Kelley was busy as she made seven saves in the half. The Tars did tack on the match's first goal in the 10
th minute, and the match stood at 1-0 after the first 45 minutes.
Halftime: Rollins 1, Clayton State 0
The second half started with Rollins extending their lead in the 47
th minute, making the score, 2-0. Then, 30 seconds later, the Lakers started to pick it up offensively as
Eva Martin knocked in her first goal of the season and cut the Rollins lead to 2-1. The Lakers would only shoot off one more shot in the half and were outshot, 12-2 in the second half. Rollins extended their lead to 3-1 in the 59
th minute.
Claire Smith, who entered in goal in the second half, managed three saves but the Lakers ultimately fell, 3-1, to open the regular season.
