FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The #5 Clayton State University men's soccer team opened its 2025 regular season falling to Nova Southeastern University 2-0 on Thursday evening.
The Sharks brought the offensive pressure early in the first half as they sent in three shots in the first 20 minutes.
Gonzalo LaChica then fired in a shot, but it was high of the net. The score remained at 0-0. The Sharks then scored the match's first goal in the 39
th minute and made the score, 1-0.
The Sharks outshot the Lakers 6-3, in the half and led the match, 1-0, after the first 45 minutes.

Nova Southeastern got off to a hot start to the second half as they extended its lead to 2-0 in the 57
th minute. The Lakers then picked up some of the offensive pressure as
Liam Newton-Smith and
Camilo Velez each connected on shots immediately following the goal. The Sharks came close a couple more times as they sent in shots that hit off the woodwork.
The Lakers did not capitalize on a late scoring opportunity by Newton-Smith and were shutout 2-0, to start their 2025 season.
