MORROW, Ga. -- The Clayton State University Women's soccer team hosted the Anderson University Trojans (S.C.) on Tuesday evening. The Trojans knocked in a pair of goals in the second half as they defeated the Lakers, 2-1.
The Lakers started out the match in a blaze with a goal in the 4
th minute.
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower went top-shelf and knocked the first goal of the season. The Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The rest of the half was a possession battle which led both teams to not to score again in the first half. Both Sprunger-Hightower &
Karley Perry lead the team with three shots while
Rubie Kelley saved one shot on goal.
Halftime: Clayton State 1, Anderson (S.C.) 0
Early into the second half, Anderson came out strong controlling the possession. During that stretch, Laker keeper
Claire Smith made a pair of saves. At the 69
th minute, The Trojans leveled the match out 1-1. The Trojans pulled ahead in the 78
th minute off a shot off the woodwork. In the 88
th minute, Sprunger-Hightower headed the ball ahead to
Aniyah Vargas whose shot went high and wide of the net. The Trojans still lead 2-1
Anderson scored twice in the second half and defeated the Lakers, 2-1.
