Laker Women's Basketball Bows Out of the PBC Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday Evening

The Lakers gave the #6 Nighthawks all they could handle

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team played the #6 North Georgia Nighthawks in the Quarterfinals of the 2025 PBC Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday evening.  The Lakers gave the top-seeded Nighthawks a run for their money but fell, 79-71. 
 
The two teams were knotted up at nine early in the first quarter.  Jasmyn Burts, Ky'leo Worriels, and Jada Alston tossed in points for the Lakers.  The Nighthawks then went on a 9-2 run and went up, 16-11.  Worriels and Dazjanae Greene scored the final points of the quarter for the Lakers but UNG led 23-19 going into the second. The second quarter proved to be an offensive clinic for the Lakers as they outscored the Nighthawks, 23-14.  The Lakers scored the first five points after Kyla Greene buried a three and Worriels flipped in a layup. 
 
Both teams went back-and-forth until the Lakers took over in the final two minutes of the quarter.  At the score, 35-33, the Lakers finished the quarter on a 9-2 run and led the #6 ranked team in the country, 42-37.  India Dowling-Green made a pair of baskets while Dazjanae Greene drilled in a three and a layup.

The Lakers held the early advantage in the third quarter and led 48-45.  Worriels and Kyla Greene both knocked down a pair free throws each.  The Nighthawks then started to pick it up offensively and eventually took the lead at 58-52.  UNG took a 60-56 lead going into the fourth quarter.  They outscored the Lakers, 23-14 in the quarter.  Aniya Jones, Alston, and Jadah Waite all made baskets in the early going of the fourth quarter but North Georgia led, 64-63.  The Nighthawks then went on an 8-1 run and led, 72-64 with five minutes left.  The Lakers did not stop fighting though.  At the score, 74-66, Sariya Henry made a layup and Alston hit a three to pull the Lakers within three at 74-71. 
 
That proved to be the final basket of the game and the season for the Lakers as the Nighthawks went onto win, 79-71.    
 
QUICK HITS
  • Worriels led the Lakers with 13 points and eight boards.  Ky'Leo went 4-for-5 from the field and 5-for-5 from charity stripe. 
  • Alston added 12 points while Henry contributed 11 points off the bench. 
  • Burts scored eight points and added a season-high eight assists.
  • The Lakers shot 12-for-13 from the free throw line in the game. 
  • The Nighthawks outrebounded the Lakers, 28-26. 
  • Waite finished her illustrious Laker career with 1159 points which is fifth all-time and 144 three-pointers made which is third all-time.
