Smith Shatters Women's 1000m Run Record as the Lakers Kick off the 2025-26 Season at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker

The Lakers across the board saw lots of excellent results in the meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  – The Clayton State University men's and women's track & field teams competed in its first meet of the 2025-26 season at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker.  The Lakers saw solid performances in their first meet of the season. 
 
MEN'S SIDE
The Lakers kicked off the meet and saw some great results in the 60m dash as Marcus Robinson and Kevin Turner both ran the fourth-fastest times at 7.01 in program history and finished in a tie for 13th place overall.  Following the 60m dash was the 60m hurdles in which newcomer Jamien Wright ran the fourth fastest time in program history and only became the fourth Laker to go sub-nine seconds in the event with a time of 8.99.  In the men's 3K, Emanuel Dixon turned out the seventh fastest time in program history with a time of 9:00.57.  James Morrow and Dion Dial also finished with strong times in the race.
 
In the men's mile, Nehemiah Horton set a new PR and finished eighth with a time of 8:29. 81.  That places him eighth all-time in program history.  In the men's 800m run, Sancho Smith finished in sixth with a time of 2:00.21.  Avery Moran ran the 15th fastest time in the race.  In the 200m dash, Robinson ran the fourth fastest time in program history and finished the race in 22.40. Rohan Holness, Dan Lamar, and Turner also competed in the raced finished with solid times. 
 
The Lakers concluded the meet in the 4x400m relay and the team of Davonte Jackson, Holness, Robinson, and Santonio Rio finished in eighth place with a time of 3:27.13 while the team of Isaiah Taylor, Drewmel Banks, Smith, and Derrick White finished .74 second behind with a time of 3:27.87. 
 
In the field, Davonte Jackson finished with the ninth best mark in the long jump with a final distance of 6.89m.  He followed up with a 10th place finish in the triple jump with a final distance of 14.10m.  Newcomer Derrick White finished 12th with a final mark of 13.41m while Logan Wright jumped 12.75m.  The field events concluded in the high jump as Christian Wiltshire's final height of 1.90m is tied for a new PR and is good for a tie for 10th in the meet.  White finished in a tie for 17th with a final height of 1.85m. 
 
WOMEN'S SIDE
Destiny Hanna, Ashanti LaStrapes, and Aerin Summers kicked off the Lakers in the 60m dash.  Later in the meet, Amaya Myers finished in 12th in the mile run with a final time of 6:26.51.  The Lakers then put on a clinic in the women's 1,000m run. Ivorie Smith broke the school record in the race with an 11th place finish with a time of 3:08.19.  She shattered the record by more than four seconds.  Marley Tate and Ahlana Failey also etch their names in the record books finishing second and fourth in program history respectively. 
 
In the women's 400m dash, Ziona Harris paced the Lakers with a time of 61.67.  In the 800m run, India Williamson finished in 11th place, clocking a final time of 2:29.12.  Jada Jenkins then paced the Lakers in the 200m dash with a time of 26.20.  Harris and Hanna also raced for the Lakers, placing in the top 50 individually.  The Lakers concluded the meet in the 4x400 meter relay and the team of Harris, Tate, Smith, and Mariah Handy finished ninth with a time of 4:09.19. 
 
In the field events, Hailee Jackson Morgan threw a program eighth-best 10.43m in the shot put.  In the jumping events, Brie Lawrence led the Lakers.  Lawrence jumped to a final distance of 5.05m, which is good for eighth best in program history. Brie followed that up with a final mark of 11.12m in the triple jump, which is fifth all-time.  In the high jump, Keira Davis finished in a tie for 10th with a final height of 1.50m, which is .10m off the school record.
