MORROW, Ga. -- The Clayton State University women's soccer team hosted Columbus State University on Wednesday night at Laker Field. The Cougars got the upper hand, 6-0.
The Lakers came out with focus and intensity, setting the tone early as
Aniyah Vargas took the first shot of the match in the third minute. Clayton State continued to push forward, working the ball through the midfield and finding attacking opportunities. In the 20th minute,
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower placed a clean shot on goal that was saved by the Cougar keeper.
Late in the half, Dayla Ayayda fired a shot toward the bottom left corner that was stopped, keeping the Lakers off the board heading into halftime. Despite trailing 3–0, Clayton State carried strong energy into the second half.

Clayton State opened the half with renewed energy, as
Eva Martin delivered a well-placed shot to the bottom right corner in the 48th minute that forced a strong save. The Lakers continued to test the opposing defense, with
Reagan Miller and Martin each creating quality chances midway through the half.
Goalkeeper
Claire Smith entered and made several key stops, including big saves in the 67th and 77th minutes. Clayton State's back line stayed active, blocking passes and clearing multiple attempts inside the box. Late in the match, the Lakers continued to press forward, with
Elisabet Isleifsdottir and Miller both taking late shots on goal, showing the team's persistence through the final whistle.
However, Columbus State scored three goals on the half and defeated the Lakers, 6-0.
