GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team concluded its regular season road slate as they traveled to play Lander University on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats defeated the Lakers, 3-1.
The Lakers and Bearcats combined for 10 shots in the first half with Lander connecting on six. Lander did not waste any time on getting on the board as they scored the match's first goal in the 7
th minute. The Lakers then knotted up the match. In the 15
th minute,
Sonny Simpson went top shelf and scored the goal, making the score, 1-1. That was the extent of the scoring opportunities for the Lakers in the half. However, Lander took the lead at the 33
rd minute and took a 2-1 lead going into the halftime break.

The two teams turned up the offensive pressure in the second half as the two teams combined for 16 shots and six corner balls.
Joao Amaral came out of the break firing as he fired in a shot at 49
th minute but it was saved by the Bearcat keeper. The Lakers saw shots by
Garbhan Feeney,
Eric Cruz, and
Camilo Velez, down the stretch, but they could not find the back of the net.
The Bearcats extended their lead with a late goal in the 78
th minute as they went onto win the match, 3-1.
