MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's soccer team welcomed the Golden Rams of Albany State to Laker Field for a Wednesday afternoon matinee. The Lakers defeated the Golden Rams, 4-1.
The Lakers took full control over the match from the get-go as they outshot the Golden Rams, 10-2, in the half.
Aniyah Vargas and
Laila Ortiz-Nolan both fired in shots in the first minute of the game. Clayton State tacked on the match's first goal. In the ninth minute,
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower crossed the ball and found Vargas who finished for a goal making the score, 1-0. The Lakers continued to pressure the Albany State defensive unit throughout.
In the 33
rd minute, the Lakers found the back of the net again.
Eva Martin was streaking into the box and passed the ball to
Karley Perry who scored the goal, making the score, 2-0. The lakers struck again towards the end of the half. In the 41
st minute, Ortiz-Nolan found Dayla Ayayda who went top-shelf for a goal.
The Lakers took a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break.

The Lakers kept up their flurry of shots in the second half as they connected on 15. The Lakers extended their lead early in the half. In the 47
th minute, Vargas sent in the initial shot but Martin caught the rebound and put the ball into the back of the net for a goal. The Lakers led, 4-0. Clayton State kept pressing the Golden Ram defense as they sent in five corner balls on the half. However, none of those materialized into goals. The Golden Rams found one good run in the 55
th minute and found the back of the net. The Lakers still led, 4-1.
Ayayda, Martin, Perry, and Ortiz-Nolan all fired in shots in the final moments of the match, but the Lakers came away with a 4-1 victory.
