Lakers Shutout Lincoln Memorial, 2-0 on Wednesday Afternoon

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team opened its home stand with a 2-0 clean sheet victory over South Atlantic Conference foe Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday afternoon.

The first half was controlled by the Railsplitters and they outshot the Lakers, 5-4.  Goalkeeper George Roke was tested early on corner ball in the 14th minute but he saved both shots faced to keep the score at 0-0.  The Lakers saw their best opportunity come in the later part of the half.  Off a nice corner ball by Garbhan Feeney, Fabian Wagner connected on a shot that was saved by the defense.

The Railsplitters and Lakers finished tied at zero, going into the halftime break.

Halftime: Clayton State 0, Lincoln Memorial 0

The Lakers turned on the jets in the second half and played with a lot of confidence.  Clayton State ended up with 20 shots in the frame.  Shots by Gonzalo LaChica and Andree Jimenez put pressure on the LMU keeper in the first 10 minutes.  The Lakers finally opened the scoring.  In the 60th minute, Manoel Neto crossed the ball inside to Fabian Wagner and found Aaron Overmars for his second goal of the season, making the score, 1-0.

The Lakers kept peppering the Railsplitter keeper.  In the 66th minute, the Laker offensive attack forced the LMU keeper out of the box and Asbjorn Saevik saw the open net and scored the goal.  The Lakers extended their lead to 2-0.  The Lakers had plenty more chances to score with shots from Donghyun Kim, LaChica, and Aidan Collins down the stretch but were unable to extend their lead.

The Lakers took over the match in the second half and came away with a 2-0 victory.
