MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team welcome the Pacers of USC Aiken to Laker Field on a blistery Sunday afternoon. The Lakers came out on top defeating the Pacers, 3-2. Both teams played very aggressive throughout as there were 25 fouls and 11 cards in the match.
The Lakers did not waste any time on getting on the board. In the first minute of the match,
Asbjorn Saevik was streaking down the farside and found
Camilo Velez in the box who finished for his second goal of the season making the score, 1-0.
Sonny Simpson was also credited with an assist as he started the rush. The Lakers kept the pressure up as they tallied seven shots on the half. The Pacers eventually evened the game in the late stages of the half, and the two teams went into the halftime break 1-1. USCA scored in the 38
th minute.

After the halftime break, the intensity picked up for both teams as they combined 11 fouls and 10 cards including a red card on USCA. The Lakers came out swinging as
Eric Cruz,
Gonzalo LaChica, and Simpson all notched shots in the first five minutes. The Lakers then retook the lead. In the 55
th minute,
Fabian Wagner crossed the ball into Cruz who found the back of the net for a goal making the score, 2-1. About two minutes later, the Lakers extended their lead. In the 57
th minute,
Jonas Koller found a streaking LaChica who headed in his fourth goal of the season making the score, 3-1.
The aggressive play continued for both teams in the midway point of the half but the Lakers led, 3-1. The Pacers inched closer with a goal in the 86
th minute, but Clayton State picked up three points and hung on, 3-2.
