MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team hit the road to play USC Aiken on Wednesday evening. The Lakers picked up their first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) win, winning, 2-1.
The Lakers put the immediate pressure on the Pacer defensive unit and marked the match's first goal. In the 6
th minute, off a pass from
Aniyah Vargas,
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower scored her second goal of the season. Clayton State pulled ahead, 1-0. Both teams then sent in a combined seven shots from the 13
th minute to the 22
nd minute. Despite a plethora of shots, the Lakers still led, 1-0. The Pacers then evened the score at one on a goal in the 28
th minute.
Laila Roberson and
Emily Torrez sent in shots later in the half, but the two teams were tied at one going into the halftime break.

The Pacers brought the early pressure in the second half with seven shots in the first 12 minutes. Clare Smith came up big making three saves. The Pacers hit the cross bar during that stretch. The Lakers took the lead in the 65
th minute. After a foul in the box,
Eva Martin converted a penalty kick, and the Lakers took a 2-1 lead.
The rest of the have was very back-and-forth, but the Lakers came away with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening.
