Consolino Marks a Hat Trick in 3-2 Win Over Young Harris

Clayton State is off to its best start since 2004

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team continues its impressive start to the 2024 season as they defeated Young Harris College, 3-2, at Laker Field on Wednesday evening. 
 
The Lakers saw an early chance to get on the scoreboard in the first half.  In the 12th minute, Carrie Consolino sent in a shot but it went off the nearside woodwork.  Clayton State kept up the pressure as Leah Agrell and Amiah Sprunger-Hightower recorded shots.  The Lakers opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.  After a nice one-touch pass from Tahlia Stangherlin, Consolino found the back of the net for her first goal of the match making the score, 1-0.  The Mountain Lions then evened the match up at one after a goal in the 40th minute.
 
The Lakers retook the lead in the 43rd minute when Lovisa Peliot sent in a beautiful balkl to Consolino who scored her second goal of the match.  Clayton State took that 2-1 score into the halftime break.

The Lakers turned up the heat going into the second half as Sprunger-Hightower and Agrell continued the onslaught of shots, but the score remained, 2-1.  The next best chance for the Lakers to score came at the 58th minute when Nyeemah Lucky sent in a ball that got passed the keeper and went off the woodwork and the post. Later in the half, the Lakers added to their lead.  After a nice cross by Madison Nicolas to the center of the box, Consolino scored her third goal of the match.  The Lakers now led 3-1. 
 
The Lakers conceded a Young Harris goal in the 89th minute but they held onto win the match, 3-2. 
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Lakers attempted a season-high 17 shots in the second half and outshot the Mountain Lions, 25-12 in the match. 
  • Both Consolino and Agrell fired off seven shots.
  • Consolino marked her first career Laker hat trick. 
  • Nicolas, Stangherlin, and Peliot all marked assists.
  • The Lakers won four of their first five games for the first time since 2004.
