Men's Soccer Opens PBC Play with a 4-0 Win Over USC Aiken

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team hosted its first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) match of the season against USC Aiken on Wednesday evening.  The Lakers took care of business defeating the Pacers, 4-0. 
 
The Lakers opened the scoring in the first half.  In the 17th minute, off a fantastic corner kick by Alex Rodriguez, Othmane Chagour found Mohamed Mahrous who finished for the goal. The Lakers took a 1-0 lead.  The Lakers added another goal before the end of the first 45 minutes.  In the 34th minute and after Andree Jimenez's shot was saved by the Pacer keeper, Alexis Iturria found the back of the net on a rebound and made the score, 2-0. 
 
Clayton State outshot the Pacers, 11-2 in the half and led, 2-0 going into the halftime break.  The half proved to be an aggressive one as the two teams combined for four yellow cards and 14 fouls.

The aggressiveness carried over to the second half as the two teams combined for eight fouls and a yellow card in the first 10 minutes.  The Lakers still led, 2-0.  The Lakers saw shots from Iturria and Chagour down the stretch, but the score remained at 2-0.  The Lakers added to their lead in the 84th minute.  After Iturria's initial shot was stopped by the keeper, he scored on the rebound as the score moved to 3-0. 
 
The Lakers added a late goal by Charlie Longino in the 88th minute as Clayton State shutout the Pacers, 4-0.
