Laker Women Soccer Settled for a 1-1 Draw on Sunday

Amiah Sprunger-Hightower scored her first goal of the season

MORROW, Ga.  – The Clayton State University women's soccer team continued its home stand as they hosted Rollins College at Laker Field on Sunday afternoon.  The Lakers and Tars settled for a 1-1 draw.

The Lakers put pressure on the Rollins' defensive unit early in the first half.  Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and Leah Agrell both notched shots in the first two minutes of action.  Clayton State then took the lead.  In the sixth minute, Agrell was streaking down the middle of the pitch and found Sprunger-Hightower who beat the Rollins keeper for the goal.  The Lakers took a 1-0 lead.  The rest of the half was a possession battle as the Lakers controlled the ball for 59% of the half.

The two teams combined for nine shots on the half as the Lakers took a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break.

Halftime: Clayton State 1, Rollins 0

The tide shifted towards Rollins in the second half as they put early pressure on Trinity Chastain.  Chastain stopped both Tar shots in the first seven minutes of the half.  Most of the half was a possession game but both teams had their chances to score.  In the 61st minute, Tahlia Stangherlin sent in a shot, but it was snagged by the Tar keeper keeping the score at 1-0.  Rollins scored its lone goal in the 78th minute and moved the score to 1-1.

The Lakers outshot the Tars, 2-1, the rest of the match but neither team was unable to find the back of the net again as the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
