TAMPA, Fla. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team drops its road opener to the University of Tampa, 2-1, on Friday evening.
Tampa showed some early pressure as they tallied four shots in the first 12 minutes of the match. It was the Lakers' turn to put pressure on the Tampa keeper as they saw shots from
Alex Rodriguez,
Isami Takeuchi,
Vic Delgado Miller, and
Alexis Iturria. Neither team found the back of the net during the first 22 minutes of the half.
Clayton State and Tampa combined for 15 shots in the half, but the match remained a 0-0 tie going in the halftime break.

The second half started as a possession battle until the Spartans scored their first goal in the 59
th minute and made the score, 1-0. The Lakers had their chanced in the 62
nd and 63
rd minute as
Othmane Chagour and
Gonzalo LaChica sent in shots but were saved by the Tampa keeper. In the 72
nd minute, Tampa added another goal and doubled up on the Lakers making the score, 2-0. The Lakers finally rang the cash register. In the 74
th minute,
Fallah Johnson Jr. scored his first goal of the season and closed the gap to 2-1.
Mohamed Mahrous' shot in the 85
th minute was the only shot for the Lakers in the final 15 minutes of the match as Tampa defeated Clayton State, 2-1.
