AMERICUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team saw its 2023-24 season end as they fell in the Quarterfinals of the 2024 PBC Women's Basketball Championship to #3 Columbus State, 71-64. The Lakers finish their season with a final record of 9-19.
The Lakers were down by 10 at 21-9 in the final 1:30 of the first quarter but they closed the gap to 21-16 after
Devyne Turner made a pair of field goals and
Hannah Wright tossed in a free throw. The Lakers were down by as much as 12 in the quarter. Columbus State then kept their foot on the gas into the second quarter and outscored the Lakers, 24-11 to go up 45-26 going into the halftime break.
Nina Blade,
Sariya Henry, and
Aaliyah Reid were among the scorers in the quarter for Clayton State. Henry and Turner led the team with seven points while Reid grabbed a team-high five boards.

The Lakers tried to close the gap in the third quarter, but Columbus State always had an answer and led by 18 at 64-46 going into the final quarter of play. The Lakers scored the final six points of the quarter as
Jada Alston, Turner, and Blade went a combined six-for-six from the free throw line. Neither team tossed in a field goal in the final three minutes of the quarter. The fourth quarter was a different story for the Lakers as they grabbed some momentum early as they went on a 8-4 run but closed the gap to 14 at 68-54.
Down 16 with 2:30 left, a layup by
Deborrah Redmon sparked a 9-0 to finish the game but it was not enough as the Lakers fell in the Quarterfinals of the PBC Tournament, 71-64.
