Three Laker Basketball Student Athletes Gather CSC Academic All-District Honors

MORROW, Ga.  – The College Sport Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday afternoon the honorees of the Academic All-District distinctions.  TJ Stargell from the Clayton State University men's basketball team was selected along with Tamaria White and Aaliyah Reid from the women's team. 
 
Stargell is the third men's basketball player in program history to earn this honor while White and Reid become the first women's basketball players in program history to be selected as a CSC All-District selection.  Stargell is one of only six PBC selections while White and Reid are two of eight selections on the women's side. 
 
Stargell, who is a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., had a solid season for the Lakers.  In his only season in Morrow, TJ averaged 6.9 points a game in 26 games played.  In addition, Stargell led the team with 97 assists and averaged 3.7 assists a game.  Earlier this season, Stargell eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark and notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists. 
 
White, who is an Atlanta native, had a good season for coach Coleman.  In her lone season in Morrow, Tamaria played in 28 games and made 16 starts.  In those 28 games, Tamaria scored 141 points, dished out 53 assists, and notched double-figure scoring totals in five games.  She saw her best game come against Lander where she scored 12 points and four assists.
 
Reid, who is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., had a breakout season for the Lakers.  This season, Aaliyah played in 27 games and made 24 starts.  This season also saw Reid break the school record grabbing 12 offensive rebounds against North Georgia on March 2nd.  She also pulled down 20 rebounds, which is the second most in program history.  Overall, Aaliyah led the Lakers with 204 total rebounds and averaging 7.8 rebounds a game.  She also notched four double doubles and eight games of double-digit scoring. 
 
To qualify for this distinction, the student athlete must boast a GPA of 3.50, be at least sophomore standing, and be a significant contributor to his or her team.  The CSC will release its Academic All-Americans for men's basketball on April 16th at noon while the women will be announced on April 17th at noon.
