MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team snapped a five-game skid as the defeated Florida Tech to conclude the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament, 79-54. The Lakers saw three of their five starters in double figures.
The two teams played a close first quarter of play with the Lakers leading 14-13 going into the second quarter.
Etaria Gibbons converted a pair of and-one opportunities to lead the Lakers. The Lakers found themselves down by four at 19-15 to start the second quarter but CSU newcomer
Paige McDonald made a three-pointer and a jump as the Lakers led 20-19. With under three minutes left and down 24-23,
Ky'Leo Worriels sparked a 7-0 run and Clayton State pulled out to a 30-24 lead. The Lakers saw a three-ball by
Hannah Wright and a basket by
Jadah Waite as they took a 38-28 lead going into the halftime break.

Dazjanae Greene,
Jasmyn Burts,
Sariya Henry, and
Nya Young supplied the early offense for the Lakers in the third quarter and extended their lead to 45-32. Clayton State continued to pace the game offensively and led, 58-41 going into the fourth quarter of play.
Kyla Greene nailed a three in the final moments of the quarter. The Lakers started off the quarter going to the free throw line often as they went 5-for-5 at the line and led 68-48. Worriels,
Jada Alston, and Burts also tossed in field goals.
The Lakers saw Young,
Armani Shaw, and Gibbons contribute points down the stretch as the Lakers pulled away with a 79-54 victory over Florida Tech.
