ANDERSON, S.C. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team opens its 2024-25 season on Friday afternoon at the Conference Challenge on the campus of Anderson University. The Lakers are trying to improve upon a nine-win season in 2023-24.
CONFERENCE CHALLENGE OPENING WEEKEND
The Lakers will open this season's conference challenge with UVA Wise. The Cavaliers and the Lakers played last season with the UVA Wise winning, 69-64, in overtime. The Lakers then play the Spartans of Anderson University and lost to them last season, 80-60.
THIS SEASON
The Lakers were picked to finish sixth in the Peach Belt Conference this season while Columbus State was picked to win the conference. Clayton State is led by its senior guard
Jadah Waite. Waite led the Lakers, last season, averaging 15.1 points a game, notching 318 total points, burying 41 three pointers, and making 109 total field goals. Waite scored in double-figures all 21 games played in the 2023-24 season. Jadah earned a third-team All-Conference mention last season. Also returning is
Jasmyn Burts who comes back as the second leading scorer from a year ago and
Hannah Wright who knocked down 36 threes last season.
Coach Coleman welcomes 11 newcomers to the team this season which includes six transfers and five true freshmen. That newcoming class is led by transfers
Ky'Leo Worriels,
Aniya Jones,
Amiyah Edney-Holmes, and freshmen phenoms in
Nya Young,
Armani Shaw, and
Kyla Greene.
COACHING STAFF
Head Coach Kaleena Coleman returns to Morrow for her 11
th season at the helm. Coleman enters this season with a career record of 170-110 including going 118-69 in the Peach Belt Conference. Also returning is Brittany Hall. Hall is entering her 10
th season as coach Coleman's assistant coach.
