ATLANTA—The Clayton State University men's basketball team travelled up the road to face Morehouse College on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers pulled out a 79-76 win and moved to 2-0 on the road this season.
Morehouse jumped out to a 13-5 lead early in the first half.
Lay Davis,
Jamall Clyce, and
Jojo Bell supplied the points for the Lakers. Then,
Dashaun Joseph and
Elijah Dates buried three-balls and made the score 16-11. At 16 all, the Maroon Tigers went on a 12-5 run and made the score 28-21. The half looked like Morehouse was going to run away with it until Dates hit another three and Davis made a jumper and cut the game to 34-31 with 3:20 left.
The Maroon Tigers finished the half on a 9-4 run and 43-35 going into the halftime break.

The Lakers got off to a hot start in the second half as they started the half on a 6-0 run and took the lead at 46-43. The Maroon Tigers countered with a 6-0 run of their own and retook the lead at 49-46. The Lakers then saw
DJ Wright bury a trio of threes and Bell hit one of his own and the Lakers led 58-52. The game went back-and-forth through the middle stages of the half and Morehouse knotted the game up at 64 with 7:30 left. After Dates made a jumper at 66-64, Morehouse went on a 6-0 run and went up 70-66 with a little under four minutes left in the game.
The Lakers quickly responded with an 11-3 in and took a 77-73 lead. Dates drained four free throws, and Joseph buried a pair of field goals during that run. The Lakers used timely offense in the late stages of the game and defeated the Maroon Tigers, 79-76.
