Women's Soccer Overpowers Shorter on Wednesday Evening

Carrie Consolino and Amiah Sprunger-Hightower both scored four goals

ROME, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team remained unbeaten as they defeated Shorter University, 9-1, on Wednesday evening.  Carrie Consolino with four goals and three assists broke the school record for the most points in a single match (11). 
 
The Lakers and the Hawks were knotted up at 0-0 until the 17th minute when Amiah Sprunger-Hightower scored her first goal of the match making the score, 1-0.  Amiah scored goals in the 20th and 24th minute of the first half and marked her second hat trick of the season.  The Lakers went up 3-0.  Clayton State went up 3-1 at the halftime break after Shorter scored a goal at the 33rd minute.  The Lakers outshot Shorter, 13-2, in the half.

The barrage of goals continued for the Lakers as they scored six times in the half.  The first one came in the 52nd minute after Lydia Madrid fed Consolino for her first goal of the match.  In the 58th minute, Leah Agrell joined in on the fun and notched her third goal of the season making the score, 5-1.  Sprunger-Hightower then tied her career high as she scored her fourth goal of the match in the 62nd minute. The goal was assisted by Elisabet Isleifsdottir.  The next three Laker goals were scored by Consolino in the 66th, 71st, and 73rd minute making the score, 9-1. 
 
The Lakers tallied 27 shots in the second half and defeated Shorter, 9-1. 
 
QUICK HITS
  • Consolino and Sprunger-Hightower scored four goals which is one off of the school record for the most goals in a match. 
  • Consolino added three assists, while Isleifsdottir, Madrid, Agrell, and Elza Kovy added assists as well. 
  • Amiah led the team with nine shots while Carrie fired in eight.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lakers (7-0-2 (2-0-1 PBC)) get into the meat of their PBC schedule as they travel to play Lander University (5-0-2 (0-0-1 PBC)) on Saturday, October 12th at 3 p.m. The Bearcats have only conceded a pair of goals on the season.  The Lakers with seven points leads the PBC by one point.
