The Lakers and Falcons Settle for a 2-2 Draw in the Home Finale

The Lakers scored two goals in the last 10 minutes which led to the draw

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team played its final home regular season match as they hosted the University of Montevallo on Wednesday afternoon.  The two teams finished the match tied at two goals apiece. 
 
The Lakers and Falcons played to a 0-0 draw in the first 45 minutes.  The Falcons outshot the Lakers 6-3 and both teams had opportunities to score the match's first goal.  Making first start of the season for the Lakers was Tuva Etterlid and she made fantastic saves.  The Lakers saw a good chance to score in the 27th minute when Lovisa Peliot's shot was swatted away by the Falcon keeper. 
 
Halftime: Clayton State 0, Montevallo 0
 
The Lakers brought the early pressure in the second half as Carrie Consolino and Tahlia Stangherlin sent in shots in the first five minutes of the half.  The score remained at 0-0.  Montevallo then scored the match's first goal in the 70th minute making the score, 1-0.  The Falcons struck again in the 74th minute as they converted a penalty kick opportunity to grow their lead to 2-0. 
 
With their backs up again the wall, the Lakers finally pulled through on the scoreboard.  In the 84th minute, Julia Hasenecz sent in a pretty corner ball which was controlled by Gabriela Martinez Alesci who fed it to Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and finished for the goal.  The Lakers closed the gap to 2-1.  A few minutes later, Hasenecz sent in another corner ball which was found by Consolino who scored her 17th goal of the season making the score, 2-2.
 
The Lakers fought back from a pair of goals down but settled for a 2-2 draw. 
 
QUICK HITS
  • Consolino scored her PBC tying 17th goal of the season and led the Lakers with six shots. 
  • Sprunger-Hightower scored her 11th goal of the season which is third in the PBC. 
  • Hasenecz picked up a pair of assists off corner kicks.
  • The Lakers finish the regular season at home unbeaten ,or the first time since 2002, with a record of 3-0-5. 
  • Montevallo outshot Clayton State, 19-12. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lakers (7-2-6) conclude their regular season with a trip to USC Aiken on Saturday, November 2nd.  Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
