MORROW, Ga. – The RV Clayton State University men's soccer team hosted the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia on Wednesday evening at Laker Field.
The two teams finished the first 45 minutes deadlocked at 0-0, however both teams saw their fair share of opportunities. In the 18
th minute,
Alexis Iturria fired a shot but it ricochetted off the far side post and the score remained at 0-0. The next Laker opportunity came in the 38
th minute as
Alex Rodriguez's shot just bent to the right. This half saw reigning PBC Goalkeeper of the Week
Mauricio Uribe make four saves.
Halftime: RV Clayton State 0, North Georgia 0
Iturria started the second half with a pair of shots in the first five minutes of play, but the score remained at 0-0. The Nighthawks had a golden opportunity to score in the 70
th minute. After a foul in the box, UNG was gifted a penalty, but the shot was snuffed out by Uribe and the score remained at 0-0. About seven minutes later, the Lakers were awarded a penalty and
Alex Rodriguez did not miss as Clayton State led, 1-0.
The Lakers added to their lead a few minutes later. In the 80
th minute off a cross from Iturria,
Fallah Johnson scored his sixth goal of the season, moving the score to 2-0. The Laker defense was smothering the Nighthawk offensive attack only allowing three shots the entire half.
Clayton State was awarded another penalty shot with four ticks remaining in the match as
Vic Delgado Miller fired his shot past the keeper as the Lakers picked up another clean sheet victory, 3-0.
