Men's Soccer Draws With Lander on Senior Day

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team hosted Lander University for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.  The two teams played to a 1-1 draw.

The Lakers and Bearcats squared up for the first time this season and the first time since the Lakers took down Lander for the PBC Tournament Championship last season.  Lander had some early opportunities with firing in the first four shots, but the Lakers struck first on the scoreboard.  Off a nice pass from Alexis Iturria, Alex Rodriguez rifled past his seventh goal of the season and the Lakers led 1-0.  That score holds true going into the halftime break.

Halftime: Clayton State 1, Lander 0

Just like the start of the first half, Lander brought the early pressure, but they were no match for Mauricio Uribe as he kept the game at 1-0.  The Lakers saw their first shot in the half come in the 61st minute as Iturria and Hector Nieto's shots were snuffed out by the Bearcat keeper.  Later in the half, Lander tied the game in the 84th minute and moved the score to 1-1.

Both Iturria and Rodriguez had opportunities to score in the final minutes of the match, but the Lakers and Bearcats settled for a 1-1 draw.
