DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team traveled up to the mountains to play the University of North Georgia Nighthawks on Wednesday evening.
The two teams played to a 0-0 deadlock in the first 45 minutes of the match. The Lakers did not allow a UNG shot and out shot them 5-0.
Alexis Iturria notched a pair of shots while
Fallah Johnson,
Camilo Velez, and
Aaron Diaz notched shots.
Halftime: Clayton State 0, North Georgia 0
The Lakers kept the pressure up going into the second half.
Miguel Torrecillas, Rodriguez, and Iturria all notched shots in the first 10 minutes of the half. Clayton State were outshooting North Georgia 12-0 until the Nighthawks attempted its first shot in the 67
th minute. The Lakers opened the scoring in the 69
th minute. Iturria was streaking down the far side and drew the keeper out of the box. Then,
Hector Nieto fed
Alex Rodriguez who went top shelf for the goal. Clayton State led 1-0.
The Lakers added to their lead in the 79
th minute.
Hector Nieto sent in a shot and it was stopped by the keeper. Nieto then collected the rebound and headed the ball into the back of the net and made the score, 2-0. The Nighthawks then opened their scoring with a goal in the 80
th minute and made the score 2-1. That goal was only the second shot by UNG of the match.
The Lakers pulled out a huge road win and defeated North Georgia, 2-1.
