Three Second Half Goals Pushes Clayton State over USC Aiken

The Lakers are riding a six-match win streak

AIKEN, S.C. – The RV Clayton State University men's soccer team traveled to the Palmetto State to play USC Aiken on Saturday evening.  The Lakers used three second half goals to defeat the Pacers, 3-1. 
 
The Pacers tacked on the match's first goal in the 18th minute making the score, 1-0.  That score would hold true going into the halftime break.  Aaron Diaz, Alex Rdoriguez, Alexis iturria, and Vic Delgado Miller all notched shots in the opening half.  Despite being behind, Clayton State attempted eight shots to only four of the Pacers.

The second half was all Lakers as they outshot the Pacers, 14-2.  They applied pressure to the Pacer defensive unit immediately as Camilo Velez and Iturria each fired in shots in the first 10 minutes.  The Lakers finally scored in the 63rd minute as Fallah Johnson received one-touch passes from Rodriguez and Delgado Miller making the score, 1-1.  The Lakers were not done pressuring the USC Aiken defensive unit as they scored the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute.  Johnson scored his second goal of the match after an assist by Rodriguez and Andree Jimenez
 
The Lakers added a goal in the 77th minute by Rodriguez as the Lakers extended their winning streak to six as they defeated USC Aiken, 3-1.

  • Johnson marked his first career multi-goal match in a Laker uniform. 
  • Rodriguez added a goal and a pair of assists. 
  • Iturria assisted on Rodriguez's goal and leads the team with eight on the season.
