COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team took on the No. 3 ranked Columbus State University Cougars on Wednesday. The Lakers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 1-0.
The Lakers saw multiple chances to score in the first 20 minutes of the match as
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and
Carrie Consolino put shots on frame. The score remained 0-0. The Cougars put only one shot on frame, but it was snuffed out by
Trinity Chastain. The score held true at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.
Halftime: Clayton State 0, #3 Columbus State 0
The Cougars pressured the Laker defense the entire second half as they notched nine shots. The Lakers did not get off a shot in the second half.
Daniela Gularte and the Laker defense only limited the Cougars to three shots on frame, but one goal was the difference. In the 74
th minute, Cougar attacker Emma Beddow fired a shot past Chastain for a goal and the score moved to 1-0.
That proved to be the lone goal of the match for either side as Columbus State handed Clayton State their first loss of the season.
